MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., August 22, 2011 – Skybox Imaging, an early-stage provider of timely satellite imagery and derived information products, recently announced the appointment of Thomas R. Ingersoll as Chief Executive Officer. In his new role as CEO, Ingersoll will be tasked with leading the company in advance of its first spacecraft launch, SkySat-1. He brings more than 25 years of experience in the space industry working at top companies such as Universal Space Network and McDonnell Douglas Corporation.

“We’re excited to have Tom join as CEO. He brings deep experience and an impressive track record in the aerospace arena,” said Pierre Lamond, Skybox board member and partner at Khosla Ventures. “Tom will work closely with Skybox co-founder, Dan Berkenstock, in leading the company into its next chapter.”

Ingersoll succeeds Berkenstock who led the company from inception to a team of 50 and will assume the role of Executive Vice President and Chief Product Officer. In this role he will continue to manage the vision, implementation and delivery of revolutionary information products and services.

“Tom has a wealth of industry knowledge that syncs with Skybox’s Silicon Valley approach to building imaging spacecraft and distributing the massive amounts of data they generate,” said Berkenstock. “His expertise is a great asset leading up to the launch of SkySat-1 and the company’s transition from research and development to commercial operations.”

Ingersoll joins Skybox Imaging from Universal Space Network (USN), a leading provider of global ground station services to the satellite industry, where he was co-founder and CEO. There he led the growth of USN from a start-up to leading supplier of mission critical ground station services to NASA, the US Department of Defense and international satellite operators.  Prior to that Ingersoll was a senior manager with McDonnell Douglas Corporation and has worked extensively with the international space community to provide reliable systems and services.
